Stream Report fo Monday February 20, 2006
Stream report for February 20, 2006
San Juan Flows are at 361 cfs below Navajo Dam;
The water is still off color but fishing well with leeches and streamers and red and black midge larvae, and brown baetis emergers. Fishing is slower below Texas Hole. Game and Fish recently stocked over 4,000 ten inch fish last week.
Rio Grande 291 cfs in the Wild and Scenic section and 515 cfs at Pilar;
Fishing for trout remained slow this week with water temps being too cold.
Pike fishing has slowed some and may be into a post spawn phase. Stripping large bunny flies in red/white has remained the best bet at hooking one. Bald Eagle sightings have been incredible.
Chama River below El Vado dam is at 230 cfs and 22 cfs below Abiquiu dam
Fishing is fair below El Vado. Best reports are from anglers using big beadheads in runs 4-6 feet deep. Fishing below Abiquiu dam has been slow with the water being low and fish very spooky. The area below Abiquiu dam is managed as a Special Trout Water with a reduced bag limit. Serious over harvesting does occur there. Please report any violators to New Mexico Game and Fish at 1-800-632-6234.
Pecos River;
The Pecos is still very cold and has iced over in some places above the village of Pecos. I’ve had no reports from Villanueva State Park. The fishing is usually fair, at least until the last fish gets harvested. It usually only fishes well after a stocking. Monastery Lake was recently stocked.
Jemez River at 20 cfs at Jemez Springs;
No reports lately but good places to try would be San Antonio below San Antonio hot springs and the East Fork upstream of Battleship Rock
